HELPING TO BE

MIR (Mission International Rescue) Charities is a non-profit organization that works to supply the Dominican Republic’s most marginalized people with a variety of life-altering services. Since 1988, we have served the women, youth and children of La Romana and the Eastern region of the Dominican Republic by partnering with and providing funding for social programs.

IT ALL BEGAN AS AN IDEA TO HELP

In 1988, after a pilgrimage to Bosnia, Lian Fanjul felt a deep calling to help those in need within her community. She began a small food distribution effort in Pahokee, Florida, alongside a colleague. That same year, her brother Alfonso Fanjul donated his Sugar Golf Tournament winnings to support educational programs in the Dominican Republic — marking the beginning of what is now MIR Charities. Since then, with the continued support of the Fanjul family — especially Emilia and José “Pepe” Fanjul, who have hosted an annual fundraising event since 1992 — MIR has grown to bring hope and support to the most vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic, sustained by the generosity of those who believe in its mission.
